Parish Nurse Programs
GriefShare
The devastation of a loss of life is a shocking experience, and the process of recovery may take years. GriefShare is a grief recovery support group that meets Tuesday afternoons, 1:30-3:00 PM in Price Parlor. Each session is self-contained, so interested individuals may join at any time. The session includes a brief video and small group discussion.
Caregiver Support Group
The heavy responsibilities of 24/7 caring for a spouse, child or loved one can rob us of our joy. We long for how things used to be, and fear how things might get worse. In a context of honesty, mutual support, prayer and compassion, the Caregiver Support Group lets you know you’re not alone. Meetings are open to all in the community. To express your interest, contact the Parish Nurse at 239-992-3233 x296 or sstec@fpcbonita.org
Wellness Programs
Since its inception in 2002, the goals of the Parish Nurse Ministry have included more than caring for the sick and assisting through illness recovery. Emphasis is also given to holistic health: balancing the physical, mental and spiritual. Towards that end, the Parish Nurse Ministry sponsors a variety of Wellness Programs throughout the year.
- FLU AND PNEUMONIA SHOTS: Annually offered at the church and administered by the Lee County Health Department during October and November. Open to the public and free to Medicare recipients.
- HEALTH SEMINARS: A broad range of topics is scheduled monthly, October through June. Examples include Women’s Heart Health, Eye Care and Diseases, Expectations of Rehabilitation, and Prostate Cancer Treatment Options.
- MEMORY SCREENING: Offered in November, the parish nurse performs the mini mental tests that are forwarded to Lee Memorial Health System Memory Clinic for evaluation. The test gives a benchmark for future evaluations or can detect a need for early intervention of potential memory disorders.
- BLOOD PRESSURE READINGS: Performed at the church before and after Sunday services the second Sunday of each month.
- HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS: Every year in June, our church hosts a presentation by Lee County Emergency Management Team, Fox News Meteorologist, Red Cross, and Florida Financial Outreach for Loss Recovery to update the community on what we have learned from the previous years’ experiences during hurricanes.
Volunteers are welcomed to assist in any of the programs.
