Dear Extended Family of First Church,
I send you warm greetings from Bonita Springs and your friends at First Presbyterian Church. I trust that you are having an enjoyable summer, and that all is well with you and your family. If there are any special needs that arise while you’re away, for which I and the others on the prayer team of our church can be praying, please contact us by phone (239-992-3233) or email at any time.
We are enjoying a delightful summer here in Southwest Florida. The regular summer rains have begun, and the lakes are filling up. The church program this summer has included a terrific Vacation Bible School for the kids during the second week in June. Many of the adults of the church are enjoying reading the book “The Good Life” by Charles Colson, and we are hosting monthly discussion sessions about the book. If you, too, are reading Colson’s book (but are not in Florida this summer), I’d like to invite you to a one-time gathering this fall to discuss the book. I will be leading that time of reflection on Monday evening, October 22.
Our worship services this summer have been exciting and uplifting. Last Sunday (June 24) we had a special guest with us for a Minute for Mission: Rev. Miguel Estrada, who is starting a new Presbyterian church among the migrant workers and immigrants living in the Immokalee region. Next Sunday (July 1) will be our time of celebrating our nation’s birthday and reflecting on the spiritual foundations of America. Afterwards we’ll have an old-fashioned church picnic with a “bounce house” for the kids outside and a brass orchestra in McClure Hall playing patriotic favorites.
You may wish to keep informed about the ongoing life and ministry of our church by visiting the website regularly. And you can easily access the most recent sermons as well.
This type of communication is a new undertaking for us as a staff, as we consider how we can “stay connected” when our congregation scatters. However, what we don’t want to do is clutter up your inbox with “spam”! To that end, if you are interested in receiving from me this type of monthly email during the summer months, please let me know by sending a brief reply.
May the Lord’s blessings be upon you until we see you again in beautiful Southwest Florida next fall or winter!
Yours in Christ,
Pastor Doug Pratt
