Our present-day Kirkin’ ceremony is believed to have been originated by Reverend Peter Marshall, a Scottish immigrant, chaplain of the U.S. Senate, and a member of the St. Andrew’s Society of Washington, D.C. The first Kirkin’ service was held in 1943.

Each year, First Church celebrates its Scottish Presbyterian heritage with Kirkin’ of the Tartan services. Both worship services include a procession led by the Harp & Thistle Pipe and Drum Band, with members of our congregation carrying tartan flags. Worship will also include the presentation and blessing of the clan tartans with members of the St. Andrew’s Society of Southwest Florida.
