The first step for many wellness programs is recognizing and admitting that there is a problem. After more than two years of living amid a global pandemic and many negative and troubling social and societal trends, it’s okay for families to admit that they are not okay. Study after study shows that our kids may certainly not be alright, with soaring anxiety, depression, and loneliness rates. In fact, a coalition that included the Children’s Hospital Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics warned that mental health issues among children have become a national emergency. How are we as parents to respond?

One way is by reminding ourselves, our children, and our grandchildren of our identity as a family in Christ. The Apostle Paul wrote to the church in Colossae, “Continue to live your lives in [Jesus], rooted and built up in him” (Colossians 2:6-7). As followers of Christ, “rooted” tells us that we are firmly planted, and “built up” implies that we are yet an unfinished product. So, ensure that your family is rooted and built up by reminding yourselves that you are a FAMILY—in Christ.
