Each year, our congregation is challenged to read one or two selected books together so we can stay connected over the summer months. We encourage you to consider joining us! The books listed below were selected to help nurture your faith and knowledge of God. They are available online and in the First Church BookCenter.

I’ve Seen the End of You | W. Lee Warren, M.D.
An acclaimed neurosurgeon, Dr. Warren assumed he could accurately predict the outcome for his patients, but it became far more personal when his own family experienced an unimaginable tragedy. As he relates stories of real-life medical drama, he takes a raw, honest look at how we can find light during our darkest hours.

The Rock, the Road and the Rabbi | Kathie Lee Gifford
When she began studying the biblical texts in their original languages and hiking the ancient paths of Israel, Gifford discovered a deeper understanding of the Bible and of God Himself. Follow her as she hikes the land with Rabbi Jason Sobel, Ray Vander Laan, and others trained in the messianic rabbinical way, and see Jesus’ earthly homeland with new eyes!

Summer Read Author to Speak at First Church

Monday, February 22, 2021
Dr. Warren will be speaking at First Church this coming season. His book, I’ve Seen the End of You, is a gripping account of his years in medicine (including service as a U.S. Army surgeon during the Iraq War and in private practice). Dr. Warren explores the mysteries of life and faith, grief and hope, disappointed prayer and answered prayer—sharing candidly his own experiences and emotions. This event will include a personal interview, with questions from the congregation welcome. Read the book and then come meet the doctor in February. There is no admission charge; no tickets needed.
