These letters of encouragement were written by one of Jesus’ closest disciples who had suffered greatly for his faith in Christ. Peter wrote to Gentiles who were also suffering for their faith, reminding them that they were part of God’s family and there was hope and new life, even amid suffering. While he stuck his foot in his mouth a few times—often to his remorse—Peter boldly preached the hope and promise of new life in Jesus. We learn to love Peter because he often reminds us of ourselves.
