But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. –Romans 5:8

The concept of Advent is an arrival or the coming of a significant event. This coming event is the birth of Jesus Christ.

Advent brings a very special mode of excitement to me. The birth of our Lord and Savior is one of the two most important events that have ever occurred. The Christmas season signifies the love that God has for us: sending His greatest gift ever to all of humankind, His only Son, to atone for our sins by sacrificing His life on the cross at Calvary. This is amplified in Romans 5:8.

The second most important event in history is the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is by far the most visible proof for belief in God, and we celebrate it at Easter and prepare for it through the observance of Lent.

First John 4:8 states, “…God is love.” Because God’s very nature is love, He demonstrates this love to us as stated above. He lavishes us with His love even though we are undeserving. It is His agape love—a sacrificial love demonstrated by sending His Son to die on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins. God bolsters His love by also sending the Holy Spirit to live within us so that we may love others as He loves us.

God is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end (Revelation 1:8). This leads to the third most significant event to ever occur, that being the second coming of Jesus. This is what we must be prepared for because we do not know when it will happen, just that it will. The Alpha—the creation. The Omega—His coming.
