Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. –1 Peter 4:8

Peter pens these words after explaining to believers that life in this world is not going to be easy and, in fact, will get more difficult. Believers must know how to live in challenging times. 1 John 4:18 teaches us that perfect love drives out fear. Peter gives the church encouragement to live as children of God, not as the world around them lives. 1 Peter 4:7 tells us to be earnest and disciplined in our prayers, and verse 8 goes on to say that we should show deep love for one another.

When believers choose to live as Christ lived, the church will be God’s expression of mercy, forgiveness, and love. Jesus said in John 13:35: “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

May we express this love for each other always, especially during this Christmas season as we celebrate the birth of our King and Redeemer.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your precious gift of love, the coming of our Savior. Amen.
