The DR Partnership: First Missions has partnered with Compassion International and International Justice Mission (IJM) to provide specific resources to the Dominican Republic (DR), as well as to foster a relationship between the two organizations. Pastors and churches associated with Compassion’s Child Development Centers are utilized as support networks for victims of sex trafficking in the DR. Social workers for Compassion International are trained by IJM to recognize signs of trafficking in their communities. This collaborative effort has allowed for a greater impact in an area where it is desperately needed.
Potter’s House & ECHO: What started as a dream many years ago became a reality for one of our Guatemalan mission partners, Potter’s House. First Missions initiated an opportunity for their leaders to visit ECHO’s Global Farm in Fort Myers, another mission partner. The leaders kept in contact with ECHO and attended an ECHO training program in Costa Rica. This led Potter’s House to implement an agricultural and livestock project on a barren piece of land they owned. Currently, 25 families are being trained to grow gardens and sell produce to support themselves. In addition to impacting their lives today, this can lead to long term improvements and support, as food insecurity is a serious issue in this area.
Third Millennium: The mission of Third Millennium is to prepare Christian leaders to lead a transformation of the world into God’s Kingdom by providing biblical education for free. Their curriculum is available in many forms, including USB flash drives and SD cards, and in a wide range of languages—English, Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, Russian, Spanish, Indonesian, Hindi, Romanian, French, Farsi (Iran), Greek, Amharic (Ethiopia), and Telugu (India). Because of this compact technology, I have been able to bring this curriculum into Cuba, Pakistan, Kenya, Guatemala, and the DR, and have made others aware of this amazing free resource. Our local church partner in the DR is now using this resource to teach Bible studies and train church elders.
