Having worked for several Christian and secular charities, what primarily attracted me to BethanyKids was not just their cause or the problem they were trying to solve—children’s health—but their approach to solving it. Rather than depending on western missionary surgeons to treat children in desperate need of medical care, they are educating native missionary surgeons. Ultimately, these trained medical professionals commit to living out the gospel by serving their communities. Because of this unique approach, thousands of children and their families continue to find healing through BethanyKids across Africa.

I am passionate about this mission because I believe the gospel of Jesus is good news for everyone. Providing compassionate, high-quality medical care and healing to desperate families not only demonstrates our love for our neighbors but, more profoundly, it shows God’s love for His people.

Physical healing and spiritual healing are inexorably tied. Through our care, we have seen patients and their families devote themselves to Jesus. Perhaps the most impactful was a patient named Francesca. When she was young, her parents attempted to poison her when they discovered her disability. They believed her to be a curse. By God’s mercy, she survived, and she eventually came to find physical healing for her condition through BethanyKids. Not only did she begin to follow Jesus through that encounter, but her family did as well. She now works with BethanyKids mentoring children who are where she was only a few years ago.

We are thankful for the way God is using BethanyKids to  each children and families in the continent of Africa. As we train native surgeons to bring healing to their communities, we need people to pray for these incredible missionaries and financially support them, if called to do so. While these missionary surgeons do not have the luxury of leaving their job to raise money in the West or have home churches supporting them, we trust that God will provide ministry partners willing to share their stories and raise funds on their behalf.
